Holy Cross High School mourns the passing of James J. McDonald, who passed away on January 9, 2026.
James was a beloved member of the Crusader community as a coach, parent, and the brother of Timothy McDonald, former President of Holy Cross High School. In 1976, he became the first boys soccer coach in school history and went on to lead the program for 28 years. During his remarkable tenure, he guided his teams to 12 league championships and earned numerous local and state coaching honors.
We are grateful for Mr. McDonald’s lasting legacy and the countless lives he touched through his dedication to Holy Cross High School. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Holy Cross High School is saddened to learn of the passing of James Harris, Sr. He began his career at Holy Cross High School, when the school opened in September of 1968. He was employed at Holy Cross for 41 years. In his early years, Jim taught Physical Science before becoming a Physical Education teacher. After leaving the classroom, he assumed the position as Director of the Physical Plant. He and his staff took great pride in the upkeep of the interior and exterior of the Campus.
One of Jim’s greatest accomplishments at Holy Cross was the starting of the Annual Alumni Golf Tournament. Over the past 30 years, this event has raised a substantial amount of money that assists students with their tuition costs.
While at Holy Cross, Jim was instrumental in the development of the athletic programs. Jim started and was the first head varsity football and baseball coach. He was lucky to have coached many great student-athletes, that went on to compete at the collegiate level. Jim’s baseball teams won over 300 games and won multiple City and NVL Championships during his tenure. In 1992, Jim was named Connecticut High School Baseball Coach of the Year. Jim was inducted into the Holy Cross High School Crusader Hall of Honor in 2023.
Service Information can be viewed here: https://lnkd.in/ewT2XdNz
Our hearts and prayers go out to the Harris family during this difficult time.

Students submitted their essays on this year’s topic: “How are you showing Patriotism and support for our country?” They were honored by the VFW Post 201 Auxiliary on Sunday.
This happened today. Xell came off the shelf…and she brought a friend. 🎄🎄🌲🎅

Our students represented Holy Cross on Saturday, December 13 at Holy Disciples School’s Annual Breakfast with Santa. They hosted the Christmas arts-and-crafts tables for the elementary school children and did a wonderful job engaging with families throughout the morning.
The event welcomed hundreds of Holy Disciples school students, parents, and grandparents, as well as church parishioners for breakfast, Christmas music, arts and crafts, and photos with Santa. It was a tremendous success, and we are grateful to our Holy Cross students for using their Saturday morning to volunteer with local elementary school children and families, and help make this year’s event so special.

Members of the class of 2005 reunited and celebrated their 20th reunion.
Class President Kevin Leger ‘05 reports: ‘We were really happy to have such an awesome turnout, and it was great catching up with everyone. It was crazy to see what’s changed and what’s stayed exactly the same. Big shoutout to Verdi for the hospitality; they took great care of us and made the night a lot of fun.
Also, just wanted to share that we made a contribution to the Margaret Leger Scholarship Fund on behalf of the Class of 2005. Thanks to everyone who helped make the reunion such a good time.
