In keeping with Blessed Father Basil Moreau’s vision that Holy Cross schools would bring hope to the world, we celebrate Father Francis E. Grogan, C.S.C., who perished on September 11, 2001, while traveling to visit his sister on United Flight 175. At Holy Cross, we carry on Father Frank’s legacy by utilizing academic instruction, campus ministry and service programs, to improve the lives of others and to make a difference…just like Father Frank did throughout his life!

With the recent sharing of reflections and treasured memories of Father Frank, Holy Cross is making a renewed commitment to our year-round ministry and service work with Father Grogan leading the way. 

Join us in carrying on Father Frank’s ministry and service, not only in Waterbury, CT, but in all communities where Holy Cross alumni live, work, and volunteer. Over 12,000+ Holy Cross alumni will learn about Father Frank and hopefully be inspired to carry on his legacy.

The Father Francis E. Grogan, C.S.C. Legacy Fund was founded at the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year and contributions from the fund will go directly into The Holy Cross Annual Fund. 

In keeping with Blessed Father Basil Moreau’s vision that Holy Cross schools would bring hope to the world, we celebrate and emulate Father Francis E. Grogan, C.S.C., who perished on September 11, 2001 on United Flight 175. At Holy Cross, we continue his legacy by spreading kindness, and utilizing academic instruction, campus ministry, and service programs to improve the lives of others and make a difference as Father Frank did throughout his life.

In tribute to Father Frank, his former students created a fund to carry on his legacy. This fund provides support to the Holy Cross Annual Fund to help with the myriad of needs the school and its student body faces on a daily basis including:

  1. Support curricular and co-curricular programs and speaker series that explore and model the life and legacy of Father Francis Grogan, C.S.C. Assist students in need of financial support to participate in service experiences and retreats
  2. Support facility upgrades at Holy Cross High School including improvements to our Chapel
  3. Provide additional funding for the service and mission work accomplished each year by our Holy Cross community, for events such as retreats and liturgical offerings, Founders Week, Mission Trip, Peer Ministry, Day of Service, Christmas and Catholic Schools Week Service Projects and much more.
