Two New Members Join Holy Cross High School Advancement Team

May 28th, 2025

Holy Cross High School’s Advancement Office is excited to welcome two accomplished professionals to its leadership team: Patrick Russell, the new Director of Major & Planned Giving, and Duane Gereski, who joins as Director of Annual Giving & Alumni Engagement. With their extensive experience and innovative approach to philanthropy and alumni relations, both are poised to elevate Holy Cross’s advancement efforts and strengthen its alumni community.

“I am thrilled to welcome Patrick and Duane to Holy Cross and to our Advancement team,” said Dr. Thomas C. Pellegrino, President. “They bring a depth of knowledge and experience to their roles that will help Holy Cross take important next steps into the future.  Most importantly, they believe in Holy Cross’s mission, the academic program and the role our school has in serving this great community.”

Patrick Russell brings a wealth of experience in major gifts and planned giving, having led successful campaigns across academic and nonprofit sectors including Fairfield University, Stamford Hospital Foundation and Johns Hopkins University - his alma mater. Prior to his arrival at Holy Cross, Mr. Russell was the Director of Development for Major Gifts at Fordham University.

Known for his thoughtful outreach and donor-centric approach, Mr. Russell is passionate about connecting individuals with opportunities to make meaningful and lasting impacts. In his new role, he will be responsible for cultivating relationships with major donors, guiding legacy giving strategies, and advancing the institution’s long-term fundraising goals.

“I look forward to building relationships - with our alumni, our students and our families,” said Mr. Russell. “Everyone has a story to tell and every story is unique, and I want to know your Holy Cross Story". I look forward to hearing about the impact Holy Cross makes on people. I come from the college and university space, and I joined Holy Cross because I have come to learn the impact of secondary education on people. And most of all, I see how a diverse, Catholic, mission-driven and community-focused high school produces people of character, conscience and compassion”.

Duane Gereski, a seasoned leader in annual giving, alumni engagement and marketing, comes with a proven track record of building and fostering dynamic fundraising programs and alumni networks. Most recently, he served as the Director of Advancement at St. Joseph High School, where he played a key role in enhancing the school’s fundraising efforts and community engagement. Prior to that, he accumulated a wealth of experience in marketing and business through his work at Starion Energy, Inc. and the SDV Law Firm. As Director of Annual Giving & Alumni Engagement, Mr. Gereski will oversee the institution’s yearly fundraising initiatives and work to deepen alumni involvement through events, outreach, and volunteer opportunities.

“I chose to work at Holy Cross High School because I believe deeply in the power of community, connection, and Catholic education,” said Mr. Gereski. “In my role in Advancement and Alumni Engagement, I have the unique opportunity to help build bridges between our past and present. I’m excited to celebrate our incredible alumni, grow philanthropic support, and share the lasting impact Holy Cross has on students’ lives. It’s truly rewarding to be part of something that transforms young people and strengthens our shared community.”

Mr. Russell and Mr. Gereski represent a new chapter in the Holy Cross Advancement Office’s mission to support the school’s future through philanthropy and engagement. Their arrival signals a renewed commitment to innovative fundraising practices and to building strong, enduring connections with alumni, families, and friends.
