When Joe Sauvageau ’75 watched the Apollo missions as a boy in Waterbury, he dreamed about space, but he never imagined he’d one day help design the instruments that explore it. Today, as a System Manager at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), Sauvageau stands at the forefront of aerospace innovation.

Holy Cross High School celebrated its 53rd Graduation Ceremony on Sunday, June 2, 2024. Diplomas and special awards were distributed to the Class of 2024. Heartfelt speeches and parting words were shared by Board members, administrators, students and special guests including the Hon. Paul Pernerewski ’79, Mayor of the City of Waterbury.

This past spring, Holy Cross High School took a big leap forward in sustainability with the installation of 513 solar panels on the roof of the building. With utility costs continuing to rise, this installation will result in greater energy efficiency and significant annual savings. 

Our students created unforgettable moments and memories as they danced the night away at their Prom held on Thursday, May 23 at the Aqua Turf.

Each year, the Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW) holds their annual Voice of Democracy essay program. According to the VFM website, this audio-essay program provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay.

Halloween Happening is a wonderful community service event that is organized by students and faculty at Holy Cross. It provides a safe and enjoyable place for local children to go trick or treating indoors.

Amanda Sparso ’14 is an extraordinary woman who manages to juggle the responsibilities of not one, but five different careers. With her diverse skill sets and passion for creativity, she thrives as a CGI Artist, model, dancer, adjunct professor, and mentor. 

The members of the Model UN Club had an exciting opportunity to visit the United Nations on October 19.

It was a big night for our boys' and girls' cross country teams who took home NVL Championship wins. 

Ojala Naeem ‘08 returned to Oronoke Road as a presenter in the 2023-2024 Alumni Speaker Series on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. Several science class students were in attendance.

The Holy Cross High School administration, faculty and staff honored students for their academic excellence during the 2022-2023 school year at Honors Convocation on Thursday, May 18.

Prom is a highly anticipated event that marks the end of high school for many students. It is a formal occasion that allows students to dress up in elegant attire, take memorable photographs, and dance the night away with friends and classmates.

On Saturday, May 20, 2023, members of the class of 2023 attended the Waterbury Unico 100th Annual Scholarship Awards ceremony.

Summer Austin ’25 discovered her passion for art as a 6thgrader at St. Bridget’s School. She picked up a brush and illustrated her feelings on paper.

While others toss their carrot tops and extra lettuce into the garbage, low waste chef Max La Manna ’07 turns them into culinary works of art.

Student musicians and vocalists presented an eclectic evening of music selections at the annual spring concert. Under the direction of Mr. Sean Lewis, they performed works that ranged from pop to sacred. 

Five individuals and one athletic team were inducted into the 2022-2023 Crusader Hall of Honor on April 22, 2023. Over 300 guests gathered in the Blasius Family Auditorium for this special ceremony, hosted by Emmy Nominee and NBC Connecticut News Anchor, Amber Diaz ’06.

Helping Hands, Holy Cross High School’s Community Service Group, worked on a number of service projects in honor of National Volunteers Week.  

Many could see that Dren Dobruna ’23 was destined for greatness. He was kicking around a soccer ball at age two. He was playing against twelve and thirteen year olds when he was eight. He possessed a gift of natural talent and a passionate drive. It didn’t take long for him to be catapulted into the professional soccer world.

Over 500 people reconnected with Holy Cross High School for the inaugural Oronoke after Hours.

For the National Eating Disorder Awareness Week (February 27th-March 3rd), Holy Cross High School invited three representative mental health therapists, Michelle Santos, Hellen St. Germain, and Felicia Lewis, from Community Mental Health Associates (CMHA).

Each March, Special Olympics offer a basketball tournament for their teams within and around the Greater Waterbury area. Holy Cross High School was proud to once again be a host and sponsor of this event. Throughout the day, individuals compete in individual skills competitions.

Kiara Byrnes ’25 is following in the footsteps of her sister, Raeanna ’23. She, along with classmate Chanel Debicki ’25 continued Raeanna’s philanthropic efforts for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Recently, they ran a fundraising campaign as part of LLS’s 2023 Student Visionaries of the Year program.

Faculty and students dressed down in orange on Thursday, February 2 to support DECA, Holy Cross High School's Business Club and their fundraiser for the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

Ryan Ruby ’23 has accumulated many skills in finance and business as a student in Mr. Kevin Zupkus’ Personal Finance class. He has learned in a very short amount of time how to make informed decisions that can shape the rest of his life.

Over 1,000 Connecticut students from 40 schools participated in the Connecticut World Affairs Council’s Model United Nations conference. They discussed numerous issues through debate and diplomacy in a respectful and informed dialogue.

The Holy Cross High School Music Department, under the leadership of Mr. Sean R. Lewis, got the Crusader family into the holiday spirit with its annual Christmas Concert.

Crusaders participated in and supported several community service projects this holiday season. Since Thanksgiving, stockings have been stuffed, items have been collected and the spirit of giving back has permeated through the building.

Our students carried on a Holy Cross High School tradition when they dressed up for a good cause.

Student-athletes, Juliana Dane ’23 and Mya Zaccagnini ‘23 signed letters of intent to play Division I athletics at their colleges in the fall of 2023.

The Holy Cross Student Theatre will present Almost Maine written by John Carini as its fall drama on December 2nd at 7:30pm and December 3rd at 5:00pm. The show will be performed at Holy Cross in the Blasius Family Auditorium on 587 Oronoke Road in Waterbury. Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students and senior citizens. They can be purchased at the door. The show is directed by Scott Schulte ’93 who has directed other HCST productions such as The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) and Arsenic & Old Lace.

The annual Holy Cross Pink Out Game to benefit Breast Cancer Research was held on Monday, November 14th at Municipal Stadium. The Crusader community watched as the varsity football team scored a victory against Torrington High School.

The Class of 1972 returned to Holy Cross High School to celebrate their 50th Reunion. Self-labeled as “the eternal seniors”, this energetic group reunited and rekindled relationships that began in the late 60s.

Holy Cross High School celebrated its 51st Commencement Exercises on Sunday, June 5, 2022. Diplomas and special awards were distributed to the Class of 2022. Heartfelt speeches and parting words were shared by Board members, administrators, students and special guests.
